There are three steps to finding a new job. First you must assess yourself and look at what knowledge and skills you can offer an employer. Second you must search an employer that may be looking for employees with skills and experience you have. Finally, you must learn how to convince an employer that you have what it takes to meet the requirements she has for a job position. If you can master these three steps, your chances of landing a new job will be much higher. The Mississippi Department of Employment Security knows this and provides a variety of services and programs designed to help you master the skills requires to search for a new job.
This article will look at some of the main training programs available to unemployed workers in Mississippi, with direct links to the official websites of each program. Most of these programs are completely free. They are a great way of using your time effectively when unemployed and increasing your marketability as a worker. Remember that ultimately you are responsible for your own education. All the programs in the world can’t force you to learn new skills. You must show interest and invest time and energy for these programs to be of any good.
Training Programs
Workforce Investment Act
The Workforce Investment Act allows the Mississippi Department of Employment Security to invest in unemployed workers by providing training activities for dislocated adult workers and young workers. To qualify dislocated workers must have been laid off from a long-term job and has little hope of returning to the same employer or even to the same industry. These funds can also be used to help self-employed workers and employed workers who have lost their jobs or businesses to natural disasters. Approved Training Sites
The State of Mississippi has many community colleges and universities which accept unemployed workers as part of state training programs. Click here for a complete list of these public colleges and universities.
Job Corps
The Job Corps is a training program for low-income youth between 16 and 24. The program provides training in vocational skills, social skills and job searching skills that will help young unemployed workers find a job.
